  9. This is a wonderful radio and capable of so much.
  10. We have successfully expanded these radios using
  11. the procedure described below.  There is a receive
  12. only modification by keypad (Software).  There is
  13. also these modifications which are permanent
  14. (Hardware).
  15.  
  16. Do not attempt this modifcation unless you are
  17. familiar with surface mount technology.
  18.  
  19. Modification as follows:
  20.  
  21. To expand the receive frequency range:
  22.         Remove the D34 diode on the main board.
  23.  
  24. To expand the transmit frequency range:
  25.         Remove the D18 diode on the main board.
  26.  
  27. These diodes are in the center of the main board
  28. near a large ground area.  Approximately 1" up,
  29. third and fourth surface mount devices from the
  30. bottom center.
  31.  
  32. After modification the radio performs spectacularly
  33. from about 130 MHz to 180 MHz.  The unit retains
  34. full sensitivity and power through the entire range.
  35.  
  36. Display will read from 100 MHz to 200 MHz but only
  37. performs in the range listed above.

  39. There are no guarantees of coverage outside the ham bands.

  41. This modification is for experimental purposes only.

  44. Keypad Mod:
  45.  
  46. Turn your radio off, hold SP and up scan arrow down while turning on the
  47. radio and don't release
  48. for 5 seconds.

  55. 130-180 mHz.
